On Tuesday, the United States announced that it has initiated a manhunt and obtained an arrest warrant for Roy McGrath, the former chief of staff to a former Maryland governor, for failing to appear in court to face charges of wire fraud and falsifying records.

McGrath was appointed as Chief of Staff to Republican Maryland Governor Larry Hogan in June 2020, and he held the position for a brief period before stepping down. He was subsequently charged in 2021.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Roy McGrath, the former top aide to a former Maryland governor, did not show up in court on Monday for the start of his trial on charges of wire fraud and falsification of records, despite being released on bond after pleading not guilty in October 2021.

As a result, the U.S. Marshals Service, which is part of the Justice Department, has launched an interstate fugitive investigation and issued an arrest warrant for McGrath. McGrath previously served as Chief of Staff to Republican Maryland Governor Larry Hogan from June to December 2020.

The U.S. Marshals Service, a part of the Justice Department, has released a “Wanted” poster featuring images of Roy McGrath from 2021.

The poster states that McGrath is wanted for charges including fraud, theft of property belonging to others, falsification of records in federal investigations, and theft in programs that receive federal funds.

McGrath’s lawyer, Joseph Murtha, said in an emailed response to a request for comment from Reuters:

“I am unaware of Roy McGrath’s whereabouts and share the concerns expressed by his family and friends about his well being. I hope that Roy is safe and that we soon have an opportunity to speak with one another.”
