A shocking attack on a Broward County, Florida bus left a 70-year-old woman bruised and battered, and authorities have now released video footage in hopes of identifying her assailant.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was sitting in the ADA section of a Lauderdale Lakes bus on October 21 when a standing passenger repeatedly bumped into her as the bus moved. When the woman asked for some space, a verbal argument broke out.
“At some point, the lady who was seated asked the woman standing if she could give her some space, and that sparked an argument,” said Carey Codd, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
The argument quickly escalated, with the attacker deliberately pushing her body into the victim several times. Officials say she then grabbed a grocery bag and struck the woman in the face repeatedly.

The 70-year-old tried to defend herself with her cane, but the attacker continued to punch her in the head. Fellow passengers stepped in to help, and the bus driver stopped the vehicle on the 4100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard. The attacker and another woman fled the scene before authorities could intervene.
The victim suffered bruising on her forehead but refused medical treatment. “Fortunately, the victim did not suffer any major injuries and was treated on scene,” Codd said.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the attacker or the woman who fled with her to contact Detective Andres Lopez at 954-321-4915 or submit a tip through the SafeWatch app.
“This is repulsive,” Codd added. “This is something that should never happen; it should not happen in any type of civilized society. What this woman did is absolutely unacceptable.”
