A New Jersey family’s Thanksgiving nearly turned into a disaster when the table holding their entire feast came crashing down—just moments before they were set to dig in.
Over 150 family members had gathered at Kat Hovnanian’s aunt’s Red Bank home on Thursday, Nov. 27, for the holiday, and the spread had been weeks in the making. But just as Kat’s 12-year-old cousin finished giving a speech in front of the table, the antique furniture gave out, sending turkey, vegetables, and sides tumbling to the floor.
The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral online. In the footage, Kat’s aunt can be seen covering her mouth in shock, while the young cousin claps her hands over her face before jumping away. Guests can be heard gasping and yelling as the feast collapses.

Despite speculation online that a family member leaning on the table caused the mishap, Kat says it was simply the table’s age and weight distribution that led to the collapse. “It genuinely just broke,” she explained. “It’s an old antique table that my aunt has had for a while, and the spread was front-loaded too much.”
While the initial reaction was shock and dismay, the family was soon able to laugh about the incident. Thankfully, some of the food survived, and Kat’s aunt had a backup spread ready to go. “We salvaged some of it,” Kat said. “The turkey, ham, and steak were somewhat okay, and my experienced, angel aunt had a whole second buffet ready in no time.”
Even after the chaos, Kat praised her aunt for her decades of hosting expertise. “She has been doing this for decades!”
