Shoppers at a California mall faced terror instead of bargains on Black Friday when a gunman opened fire, injuring three people, including a 16-year-old girl.

The chaotic scene unfolded at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, just one day after Thanksgiving, as stores were packed with eager Black Friday shoppers. Dramatic footage circulating online shows panicked shoppers running for their lives amid the chaos.

San Jose police said officers rushed to the mall after multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire late Friday afternoon. Dispatch audio released online describes frantic callers reporting a “trail of blood” near Macy’s.

Many shoppers shared their terrifying experiences on social media, describing how they took shelter inside stores, ducking behind mannequins or hiding under racks of clothes while officers secured the scene. Once police gave the all-clear, shoppers ran to safety outside the mall.

Police confirmed three people were shot—a man, a woman, and a 16-year-old girl. All were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the shooting stemmed from an argument and was considered an isolated incident, not an active shooter situation. As of Saturday morning, the suspect remained at large.
