A terrifying boating accident off the coast of Thailand has left an 18-year-old tourist dead and dozens of others injured after a speedboat carrying holidaymakers slammed into a fishing trawler and capsized in the Andaman Sea.

The tourist speedboat, identified as the Korawich Marine 888, was carrying 52 passengers and three crew members when it collided with a fishing vessel near the Phi Phi Islands — a famous vacation hotspot between Phuket and Krabi — on Sunday morning.

The impact was violent, tearing off the front of the boat and sending everyone on board into the water. The vessel quickly overturned and began to sink, throwing people into the sea as chaos erupted around them.

Witnesses described panic and fear in the water, with passengers screaming and clinging to life jackets while trying to stay afloat and help loved ones.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, pulling stranded tourists from the ocean and bringing them to shore. Tragically, one young woman — believed to be an 18-year-old Russian tourist named Elizaveta Starykh — was critically injured and later died despite emergency treatment. At least 21 others were reported injured, including foreign tourists and Thai crew members.

The fishing trawler involved in the collision, named Pichai Samut 1, was not damaged in the crash, while the speedboat suffered significant destruction.

Thai authorities have launched an investigation into what caused the crash, examining factors like navigation, speed, and visibility in the busy boating corridor that connects popular destinations like Phuket, Krabi, and the Phi Phi Islands.
