Everything really is bigger in Texas — including fast-food showdowns.
A Whataburger employee in Paris, Texas, is going viral after defending a coworker in the most unexpected way possible: with a fry basket and a trash can.
The wild scene was caught on video by a customer who happened to be inside the restaurant when the chaos erupted. According to witness Billy Jones, a man dressed in all black walked into the burger joint and suddenly began attacking a worker.
That’s when things took a turn.
Jones told local outlet KDFW that one employee didn’t hesitate. He grabbed a metal wire fry basket and struck the alleged attacker in the head, knocking him to the ground.
As the confrontation continued, the manager reportedly jumped in — wielding a trash can like a shield and repeatedly hitting the suspect while others shouted for someone to press the panic button.

The suspect eventually fled the restaurant as employees called 911.
Police later identified the man as 41-year-old Anthony William Newhuis of Spring, Texas. According to the Paris Police Department, officers found him bleeding from the head in the restaurant’s back parking lot.
After hearing details of what happened inside, officers arrested Newhuis on charges of assault resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication.
Authorities say he was taken to a medical facility to be treated for his injuries before being booked into jail. But the drama didn’t stop there. While in custody, police allege he intentionally flooded his cell, resulting in an additional charge of criminal mischief under $750.
Whataburger addressed the viral incident in a statement, saying the safety of guests and employees is a top priority and that the company is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the video continues to rack up views online, with many praising the quick-thinking employees who turned everyday kitchen items into makeshift defense tools.
In Texas, apparently even a fry basket means business.
