A quiet school pickup turned violent in Pennsylvania after a crossing guard was brutally attacked while helping children get home safely.

Police in Darby Borough say the shocking incident happened Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. at the intersection of South 6th and Walnut streets — just as students were crossing the road after getting off a school bus.

According to investigators, a driver in a gold Nissan Altima suddenly pulled over, got out of his car, and walked straight toward the crossing guard.

Moments later, he allegedly punched her in the face — knocking her unconscious — before jumping back into his car and speeding off.

All of it happened in front of children.

Authorities believe the man became enraged after being forced to wait while kids crossed the street.

“It’s very disturbing,” said Darby Borough Police Chief Joseph Gabe. “You rarely see someone who serves the community like this become the victim of such a violent act.”

The crossing guard was rushed to the hospital with facial injuries but is expected to recover.

As police search for the suspect, the community is rallying around the injured guard — someone many say is a familiar and trusted presence in the neighborhood.

“I just hope she’s okay and can come back,” one local resident said. “Whoever did this needs to turn themselves in.”

The attack has sparked outrage, with State Sen. Anthony H. Williams stepping in to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Police say they are working quickly to identify the suspect and make sure he is brought to justice.
