A routine morning at a Connecticut worksite turned tragic after a man was killed in a horrifying industrial accident.
Emergency crews were called to a landscaping materials yard in Hamden early Thursday morning after reports that a worker had become trapped inside a large gravel machine.
When first responders arrived just before 7:30 a.m., they found the 32-year-old man in cardiac arrest.
Crews were able to pull him from the heavy machinery and immediately began life-saving efforts, but the injuries were too severe.
“Resuscitation efforts were made,” said Fire Chief Shelly Carter. “However, due to his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Authorities say the man was operating the industrial equipment at the time when something went terribly wrong. Investigators believe he suffered traumatic asphyxiation after becoming stuck inside the machine.
So far, officials say there is no indication of foul play or criminal wrongdoing.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Now, multiple agencies are working to figure out exactly what happened. Local police and fire departments are investigating, and federal safety officials have also been notified.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to conduct its own review into the incident.
