Kasey Grelle, a 41-year-old CEO from the St. Louis area and a mother of three, was killed during a horrific crash while on vacation in Nicaragua with her children.

The devastating incident happened last month during a resort tour in Tola, along Nicaragua’s southwest coast. According to her family, Grelle was riding in a vehicle with two of her kids when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over.

The crash killed Grelle and left her 11-year-old son, Julian, with severe injuries.

“We are devastated,” her brother Andy Joyce shared in a heartbreaking post. “The driver lost control and rolled the vehicle, killing Kasey and severely injuring Julian.”

Julian suffered skull and spine fractures along with a collapsed lung and was later transported back to Missouri, where he was treated in the ICU. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, loved ones say he’s showing incredible strength.

From his hospital bed, Julian has already been cracking jokes, watching St. Louis Cardinals games, and even keeping up with his March Madness bracket — small signs of hope in the middle of a nightmare.

Two of Grelle’s other children were not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Reports indicate more than 20 people were injured in the accident, which occurred as the vehicle was traveling down a hill inside the resort.

Back home, the family is grappling with an overwhelming loss.

“Don’t take a day for granted. Live your life. Love your people,” Grelle’s husband wrote in an emotional message. “I wish I could’ve saved you.”

Friends say Grelle was the backbone of her family, especially during one of their darkest moments. When her husband was seriously injured in a previous accident, she stood by his side as caregiver and provider — even while pregnant.

“She carried her family through that crisis,” said a close family friend who organized a fundraiser. “Now she’s gone, and they have to carry on without her.”

Grelle was the founder and CEO of Aux Insights, an international marketing consulting firm. But those closest to her say her proudest role was being a mom.

A fundraiser created to support the family has already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help cover medical expenses, counseling, and funeral costs — a testament to the impact she had on those around her.
