A shocking late-night incident inside a hospital in Australia has left a man in critical condition after what police are calling a brutal attack.

Authorities say a 46-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly entering a hospital in Sydney and striking a man in the head with a hammer while he lay in bed.

Police were called to the hospital in Camperdown just after midnight on April 9. When officers arrived, they were told the woman had targeted a 63-year-old man known to her.

According to investigators, the victim was hit in the head with a hammer, leaving him with severe injuries. He remains in critical condition and is reportedly on life support.

Local reports say the man was asleep in his hospital bed when the attack happened.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Disturbing details emerged in court, where it was alleged the woman entered the hospital carrying a hammer and told staff she wanted to speak with the man. After being told visiting hours were over, she allegedly made her way to his bedside anyway.

That’s when the situation turned violent.

Prosecutors claim she struck the man in the forehead, causing catastrophic injuries, including a fractured skull. Reports also say the victim suffered a seizure after the attack.

The court heard the suspect allegedly shouted accusations during the incident, though authorities have not confirmed a clear motive.

A judge described the case as an “extraordinarily violent” attack and denied the woman bail. She is expected to remain in custody as the case moves forward.

Hospital officials say no other patients or staff were injured, but the incident has left many shaken.

“This kind of violence is completely unacceptable,” a spokesperson said, adding that support is being offered to staff who witnessed the attack.
