What was supposed to be an unforgettable night at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival quickly turned into chaos after a terrifying accident left fans shaken.

The shocking moment unfolded Friday night at the Do LaB stage when a heavy lighting fixture suddenly crashed down into the crowd during a packed set. The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. while DJ John Summit was performing, with energy running high—until everything changed in an instant.

One witness standing just a few rows back said the equipment came plunging from above and struck a woman in front of him, leaving her badly injured. According to his account, the impact “gashed her head open,” creating a disturbing scene in the middle of the crowd. “There was blood all over the light, and then there was blood on the ground,” he said.

Panic spread quickly as nearby concertgoers realized what had happened. People began waving lights and trying to get the attention of medics while others rushed in to help. Within moments, several attendees lifted the injured woman and carried her out of the crowd to get medical attention.

The fallen fixture remained on the ground beneath the Do LaB’s signature fabric structures as stunned fans looked on. Some tried to move it, but the object was far too heavy for one person to lift. One witness even recorded the aftermath, saying he wanted to document what happened. “This is not okay,” he said. “Coachella, what are we doing?”

Videos circulating online show the large piece of equipment lying on the ground as security stepped in and shut the stage down. In one clip, a guard can be heard telling the crowd that someone had been hurt by a falling object and that the area would be temporarily closed. Later that night, parts of the area were sealed off entirely, with some attendees saying it felt like a crime scene.

While the exact cause is still under investigation, many believe the weather may have played a role. Strong winds had been sweeping through the festival grounds throughout the day, causing disruptions across the venue. Witnesses said gusts intensified during the performance, raising concerns about the stability of overhead equipment.

The rough conditions had already led to changes elsewhere at the festival, including canceled performances and reports of tents and canopies being blown away.
