During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Cross Connection,” former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner served notice to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) that he will regret ordering an investigation of Attorney General Merrick Garland should the Republican Party take control of the House in the 2022 midterm election.
Speaking with host Tiffany Cross, Kirschner didn’t hold back, accusing the Republican leader of “political thuggery” in the service of former president Donald Trump.
After MSNBC played audio, McCarthy claimed that he intends to go after Garland in light of the search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort which resulted in FBI agents reclaiming stolen documents that could lead to espionage charges, the veteran prosecutor said the California Republican would rue the day.
“Kevin McCarthy is engaged in political thuggery, that’s all this is,” Kirschner bluntly stated. “He threatened the attorney general by saying you better clear your calendar and preserve your documents.”
“Guess, what Kevin?” he continued. “Attorney General Merrick Garland and everybody at the Department of Justice preserves their documents every day. It is what I did for decades inside of the Department of Justice.”
“Do you know who does not preserve documents?” he continued. “Donald Trump and his criminal associates. Instead, they steal — and let’s call it what it is — they steal documents from the White House because none of these documents, setting classification aside, should have been taken from the White House and whisked away to Mar-a-Lago. They should have been sent over to the National Archives, be cataloged and held.”
“Kevin McCarthy has nothing left but hollow threats, political thuggery and he has been on the wrong side of every argument since a couple of days after Jan. 6 six when he had a spasm of candor and good judgment. and said Donald Trump is responsible,” he concluded.
Such an act that has never happened before in the history of the country with so little to go on – for one thing what could have been so urgently needed after over 18 months since everything would have been shifted, moved, sorted, whatever needs done to move a President and his administration out of DC – indeed an investigation that will tell us all the thinking and consequences that went into such a decisions should be undertaken and put to bed.
Kirchner’s comment is said as the true partisan hack that he is. Credibility is important. Facts matter. Making inane comments on a partisan “news” network, like MSNBC, doesn’t instill credibility. It is only fodder for the false narrative they present to their viewers.
The GOP leadership, particularly McCarthy, is totally responsible for how the current, legal, valid investigation of Trump and his administration is being handled. Had he and McConnell allowed a joint Congressional investigation to go forward in April of 2021, these issues would not be dragging into late 2022. Instead both McCarthey an McConnell toadied up the pro-Trumpers and decided to “wash the entire 6Jan insurrection under the bridge, allowing such a horrendous affront to the Constitution to be totally ignored. McCarhey further extended the issue when two of five GOP nominees to the House 6Jan Committee were nothing but Trump “bootlickers” to further disrupt the investigation. Instead of appointing other Congressmen/women who refused to nominate anyone. Fortunately, not all elected GOP officials are so small and short sided and two GOP Representatives stepped forward in spite of McCarthey.
If any AG should be investigated it is Barr for ignoring the extensive evidence provided by the Mueller investigation of Trump’s 10 instances of obstruction of justice.

Excuse me!?? Don’t all presidents take boxes of papers when they leave the White House – for their Libraries, for one thing. And perhaps a lot of simply more personal type documents? FBI would have had no idea, except what the folks who had been negotiating and had seen in Mar-a lago while there going through those things. This makes no sense in this country. They have used the heavy handed tactics with Roger Stone and other persons they involved in the whole Russian hoax that they helped cook up! This is police state stuff and I’m hoping that there are enough freedom loving folks with integrity who will come together with the same in Congress and put a stop to this now. One does not act like a President is a Drug King with an army to over come in order to go in and serve a warrant. Nor put in cuffs for a misdemeanor then leg irons and do a “strip search”???? of a political supporter who they do not like!!! BUT THEY DID!! HERE IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! All Presidents have taken paperwork,gifts,paintings. Look at the Clintons and Obama. They took so much they had to build a newer place to keep the goods.Where’s the warrant for those items and that furniture was removed from the whitehouse without authorization.
