During a conversation with Hasan Minhaj on the comedian’s YouTube channel, Obama disclosed that he watched Swarm, a series where Malia Obama worked as a writer alongside the renowned Donald Glover, the show’s creator. As a fan of Glover’s previous work on Atlanta, Obama had an added incentive to view the show due to his daughter’s involvement. He emphasized the importance of supporting his daughter’s aspirations by saying, “And I watched it because my daughter worked on it. So, of course, I’ve got to watch it.”

Minhaj probed further, questioning whether Obama had watched the pilot episode of Swarm. This particular episode opens with a scene of an explicit nature, featuring Chloe Bailey and Damson Idris engaging in an intimate act, observed by Dominique Fishback’s character through a slightly ajar door. Obama, while choosing not to elaborate on his specific thoughts about the scene, acknowledged that certain aspects of the show were “a little disturbing.” However, he recognized that such provocative content is an integral part of contemporary art and accepted it as an inevitable aspect of the creative landscape. He stated, “That’s the nature of art these days and at [this] moment, and that’s OK.”
