Teen Driver Accused of Killing 10-Year-Old in Wrong-Way Crash to Be Tried as Adult

A 17-year-old driver will face adult charges after a wrong-way crash in June claimed the life of 10-year-old Brandon Martinez. Henrry Norberto, who was 16 at the time of the crash, is charged with DUI resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death, and drug possession. He also faces multiple misdemeanor charges, including driving without a license and insurance.

The crash occurred on Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway when Norberto drove a Ford pickup head-on into a Chevrolet carrying Brandon and his father, Glenn Martinez. The Chevrolet flipped, killing Brandon at the scene. Glenn Martinez described the horrifying moment, saying he tried to avoid the collision but was powerless to stop it.

Authorities reported that Norberto had beer bottle caps and marijuana vape pens in his pockets. Despite claiming he had not used alcohol or drugs in the past year, his slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of alcohol told a different story. Blood tests later revealed Norberto’s THC and alcohol levels were far above the legal limit.

Court documents show Norberto had a history of substance abuse referrals, citations for marijuana-related offenses, and prior run-ins with the juvenile justice system. He had also been expelled from multiple schools and was not enrolled in any since 2024.

Brandon’s mother, Amy Davila, expressed that the decision to try Norberto as an adult is a step toward justice. She remembered her son as a bright and caring child who loved chess, dreamed of becoming an engineer, and wanted to make the world a better place—a life tragically cut short.
