A tragic accident in McHenry County, Illinois, claimed the life of a semi-truck driver this week after he was electrocuted on a local farm.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon around 5:17 p.m., when farm equipment accidentally hit overhead power lines along County Line Road, just south of Jackson Road.
A 56-year-old man from Hebron was operating a John Deere 9520RX tractor, pulling a Brent 2096 grain cart, offloading grain into a semi-trailer truck parked nearby. During the process, the grain cart’s Avalanche chute came into contact with the power lines, bringing them down.
A 38-year-old man from Woodstock, who was driving the semi-truck, approached the tractor and was electrocuted when the live wires made contact. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The tractor operator was taken to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford in fair condition. ComEd crews were called in to handle the downed lines, while the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
This heartbreaking accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of working near power lines, even in routine farming operations.
