A heartbreaking accident unfolded at a busy outdoor market in Bucheon, a city just outside Seoul, South Korea, when a delivery truck suddenly sped into a crowd of shoppers. The crash left two people dead and at least 18 others injured.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Thursday morning after the truck, driven by a man in his 60s, plowed through the market for nearly 500 feet before coming to a stop after hitting a storefront. Police say the driver, who was rescued from the vehicle, claims the truck’s brakes failed.

Authorities confirmed that the two people killed were women in their 70s. In total, about 20 people were hurt in the crash, several seriously.

Witnesses described the chaos that followed. “I was eating inside the store when I heard screams outside, followed by a loud crash,” said Jin Mo, a 43-year-old vendor at the market.

Police are questioning the driver, who has been charged under South Korea’s Traffic Accident Special Act for negligent homicide and injury. Officials said he tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

According to fire officials, the driver told investigators that the truck suddenly accelerated before losing control. Authorities are now reviewing security footage and inspecting the vehicle to determine what caused the accident.

The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the victims and supports those injured in the devastating crash.
