A woman in western North Carolina had a terrifying morning when a man set her on fire after she didn’t get him a beer quickly enough, police say. Miraculously, she survived without serious injuries, though her blouse was burned in the attack.

The incident took place around 7:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at a home on Chipper Curve Road in Sylva, roughly 160 miles west of Charlotte. According to the Sylva Police Department, the confrontation began as a verbal argument between the woman and Patrick Tyson.

Investigators said Tyson grabbed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, poured it on the floor and the couch where the woman was sitting, and then ignited it. The flames quickly spread, catching both the couch and the woman’s shirt on fire.

The fire caused significant damage, charring the couch, burning the carpet, and leaving smoke damage throughout the home. Sylva firefighters were able to bring it under control.

Tyson was arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, first-degree arson, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor injury to personal property. Bond was set at $750,000.

Police described the case as a domestic dispute but did not provide details about the woman’s relationship with Tyson. The terrifying incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly domestic conflicts can escalate into life-threatening situations.

    1. Maybe he’s been to Japan, beer at breakfast is the norm over there so I’m told but he still needs to either learn patience or get off his duff and get it himself
