A New Jersey police officer who went on a violent rampage at her ex-boyfriend’s home has been permanently banned from working in law enforcement anywhere in the state.

Rebecca Sayegh, a former Toms River officer, pleaded guilty on Nov. 17 to burglary, criminal mischief and simple assault after an April incident at her ex’s house in Berkeley, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. As part of the plea deal, she agreed to give up her job and forfeit all future public employment in New Jersey.

Before her guilty plea, Sayegh had already been suspended without pay from the department.

Prosecutors say they are seeking a sentence that includes 180 days in the Ocean County Jail, probation, restitution, and a no-contact order for both victims.

The charges stem from a late-night episode on April 25, when Sayegh allegedly used her police baton to smash through the front door of the home she once shared with her boyfriend of five years. Inside, she confronted him and his new girlfriend, pushing and shoving both during an argument.

When the victims tried to restrain her, Sayegh broke free, destroyed items inside the house, and caused damage to the hood of one victim’s car, prosecutors said. The new girlfriend ran into the backyard and called 911 as the chaos continued.

According to reports, Sayegh also tried to fight responding officers and resisted arrest. After she was finally restrained, she allegedly threatened to burn down her ex-boyfriend’s home.

The outburst left roughly $2,000 in property damage inside the house and another $500 in damage to the vehicle. Despite the violent nature of the incident, Sayegh was released from Ocean County Jail under New Jersey’s bail reform system.

The former officer, who had spent nine years on the Toms River force, now awaits sentencing on Jan. 26, 2026.

Her plea comes months after she filed a lawsuit against the department and township, claiming she was sexually harassed by then–Police Chief Mitch Little and denied promotions because of her gender.
