Tucker Carlson’s latest podcast episode spiraled into controversy after his guest, far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, mocked the late Sen. John McCain — and took aim at his daughter, Meghan.

In a bizarre exchange, Yiannopoulos, who calls himself “ex-gay,” referred to John McCain’s hawkish foreign policy as “the gayest thing imaginable.” He joked, “I’m not saying he was a practicing homosexual, but is there anything gayer than John McCain’s bloodlust?”

The segment quickly turned personal. Yiannopoulos went on to mock Meghan’s body, sneering that McCain “even bred the fat best friend,” adding, “Is there a more ostentatious fat hag in America than Meghan McCain?”

McCain didn’t hold back. On her own show, Citizen McCain, she blasted both Carlson and his guest.

“They had a guest on who, among other things, said my dad was gay because of his foreign policy,” she said, her voice steady but angry. “For the record, my dad was married to two women, had seven kids, and—just to be clear—he dated a stripper when he was in college at the Naval Academy.”

Laughing, she added, “He was a notorious ladies’ man before he got married. It’s literally in his book. I’m not speaking out of turn. My dad really loved women.”

She then turned serious: “Mocking the dead for attention is vile. My father served this country with honor while these two mock him for clicks.”

The insults didn’t end with her father. After Yiannopoulos’ weight comments, McCain—who is nine months pregnant—addressed the attacks on X (formerly Twitter).

“Yes, I am very fat,” she wrote. “I’m almost nine months pregnant with my third child. I am also very happy.”

“I don’t care how many times Tucker talks about being a Christian; that is not Christian behavior,” she continued. “This meanness toward women is exactly why the right has such a problem with women voters of my generation.”

McCain ended her post with defiance: “Don’t feel bad for me. People have been calling me fat since I was 22. It’s old, lazy, tired. I don’t make my living off ugliness like that—and I can’t imagine how dark life must be for people who do.”

Carlson, once Fox News’ top-rated host, has been courting controversy since his ouster in 2023. His independent podcast, streamed on X, often features guests who blur the line between political commentary and shock-jock performance.

Yiannopoulos, who rose to fame as a right-wing provocateur during the 2016 election, has been banned from multiple platforms for hate speech. His appearance alongside Carlson marks another step in the host’s pivot toward “anti-establishment” internet culture.

McCain, who has long criticized both extremes of U.S. politics, said the episode reveals something “rotten” about the current media environment.

“When cruelty gets clicks, people stop caring about truth,” she said. “My dad fought for free speech, but he also believed in decency. That’s what we’ve lost.”
