Tragic new details have emerged in the shocking deaths of acclaimed actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. According to Showbiz 411, Michele was still alive when their daughter Romy discovered the scene at the couple’s Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14.

Sources say Romy found her father already dead, while Michele was conscious enough to speak and identify who had attacked them. “He left us here for dead,” Michele reportedly told her daughter, leading investigators to focus on a family member as a suspect.

Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody and is being held without bail in connection with the killings. Authorities have since formally charged Nick with two counts of first-degree murder, and he is expected to make his first court appearance on Wednesday, December 17, according to ABC News.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman addressed the case at a press conference, noting the difficulty of prosecuting family violence cases. “Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” Hochman said. The charges carry the possibility of life in prison without parole or the death penalty, though no decision has been made regarding capital punishment.

Sources say the family had struggled with Nick’s personal challenges for years, including drug addiction and mental health issues. He had previously collaborated with his father on the 2016 film “Being Charlie,” which drew from his own experiences with substance abuse.

TMZ reported that Nick had a heated argument with his parents at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13, the day before the killings. Following the incident, he reportedly checked into the Pierside Santa Monica hotel, where staff found a bloody scene, including a shower filled with blood.

Law enforcement confirmed that Nick had been living on his parents’ property but was not at the home when their bodies were discovered. He was later apprehended near the University of Southern California.

Rob Reiner was celebrated for his work on films such as “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Stand By Me,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” and “A Few Good Men.” He is survived by his children Jake, Nick, Romy, and Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted during his first marriage to Penny Marshall, who passed away in 2018.
