A bizarre and frightening scene inside a Hong Kong noodle restaurant has gone viral after a woman allegedly snapped when her phone died and she couldn’t pay for her meal.

According to reports, the incident happened Saturday, Jan. 3, when a 32-year-old woman tried to pay for food using her phone at a restaurant in Hong Kong. When staff realized her phone battery was dead, employees offered to help her charge it, and the restaurant owner later said there was nothing initially alarming about her behavior.

But the situation quickly spiraled out of control.

Authorities say the woman suddenly grabbed a meat cleaver and a pair of scissors from inside the restaurant, sending other customers scrambling out in fear. The owner immediately called police.

Within minutes, about a dozen officers from the Hong Kong Police Force arrived, wearing helmets and carrying shields and batons. CCTV footage released later shows the restaurant completely emptied, with food, phones, and chopsticks scattered across the floor.

In the video, officers enter through the front door, and the woman charges toward them, swinging the meat cleaver against their shields. At the same time, additional officers enter from a side door and move in from behind in an apparent attempt to disarm her. Police reportedly used pepper spray during the standoff.
