A heart-stopping moment on a busy Florida road could have ended in tragedy — if not for one stranger who didn’t hesitate to act.
Dashcam footage shows two tiny toddlers wandering directly into oncoming traffic in Brevard County while their family was nowhere in sight. The girls, believed to be no older than 2, were blocks away from the Airbnb where they were staying when they stepped into the road.
That’s when John Brittingham, a father of five, happened to be driving by after finishing a real estate photo shoot. As cars approached, Brittingham slammed on his brakes, jumped out of his vehicle, and physically stopped traffic.
Video captures the terrifying seconds that followed. One toddler had already reached the middle of the road when Brittingham scooped her up with one arm, waving frantically with the other to signal drivers to stop. The second little girl, closer to the sidewalk, turned toward him and held out her arms — and he picked her up too without missing a beat.

Within six seconds, both children were safely back on the sidewalk.
“I was terrified thinking of what could have happened to them,” Brittingham later told local station WESH. “The rest of my life would have been ruined.”
The danger wasn’t over yet. With no adults in sight, Brittingham began knocking on doors along a nearby residential street, trying to figure out where the girls had come from. Eventually, he reached an Airbnb and, after yelling to get someone’s attention, finally located their family.
According to Brittingham, the group inside — an elderly couple and a young girl — were shocked and apologized repeatedly. He told them the gate had been left open and the toddlers had wandered straight into the road.
“I was like, ‘I know — I’m just glad I could get them back to you,’” he recalled. “They were out in the road.”
Brittingham said he chose not to call police, explaining that his only focus in that moment was getting the children back to safety.
His employer, a Florida-based drone company, later shared the footage on social media with a blunt message for drivers who had been seen honking as the rescue unfolded.
“This could have turned out so tragic,” the company wrote. “Slow the F down. Please always watch out. You never know.”
