Inna Maor and Mordehay Grunberger

A Florida community is reeling after a longtime grocery store employee was killed in a horrifying workplace accident involving an industrial dough-mixing machine.

Authorities have identified the victim as 71-year-old Mordehay Grunberger, a pastry chef who died early Friday morning at the South Florida Kosher Market in North Miami Beach.

According to the North Miami Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the store around 11:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a fatal accident. Investigators believe the incident itself occurred much earlier, around 4 a.m., while Grunberger was working.

Police say Grunberger somehow became caught in a large industrial bread mixer inside the store. Exactly how it happened remains under investigation.

“The North Miami Beach Police Department is currently investigating the death of a male at South Florida Kosher Market,” the department said in a statement. “At this time, there are no signs of foul play, and the incident appears to be a tragic accident involving an industrial dough mixer.”

Grunberger had worked at the market for years and was well known in the local community. His Facebook profile identified him as a pastry chef, a role he had reportedly held long-term at the store.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene as part of the investigation into the fatal accident.

As news of his death spread, Grunberger’s wife, Inna Maor, shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, posting photos of her late husband and reflecting on their life together.

“Today, my beloved husband Miki, my closest person in my life, my best friend, and father of my two beautiful sons, tragically passed away,” she wrote. “I lost myself. I love him so much. He’s the love of my life.”

The loss has been made even more heartbreaking by a post Maor shared just days before the tragedy. Five days prior to Grunberger’s death, she uploaded a video montage of family moments set to the song “Enjoy Every Moment,” including photos of herself and her husband smiling together at a restaurant.

Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the fatal incident. The South Florida Kosher Market has not publicly commented, and the investigation remains ongoing.
