A routine grocery run turned into pure chaos Friday when an SUV came barreling through the front of a Northern California supermarket, injuring seven people inside.

Police say an unidentified female driver lost control of her Hyundai Tucson just before noon and slammed straight through the entrance of Oliver’s Market in Santa Rosa. The SUV didn’t just hit the building — it tore into the checkout area, where customers were gathered.

Shoppers inside the store were struck as the vehicle crashed through glass, shelves, and displays, sending debris flying across the floor.

According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, four people suffered minor to major injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Two others were hospitalized with mild injuries. Two more individuals were treated at the scene and released, while another person declined medical treatment.

Authorities say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. At this time, police are treating the incident as an accident and do not suspect criminal intent.

Images from the scene show the maroon SUV lodged inside the store’s entrance, with shattered glass and scattered merchandise covering the checkout area.

The supermarket was expected to remain closed for at least the rest of the day as crews assessed the damage.

The frightening crash comes amid a string of recent incidents involving vehicles slamming into grocery stores across California. Just last week, an elderly woman drove into a Los Angeles market, killing three people. Days later, a 49-year-old man crashed into a supermarket in Truckee, injuring four — including children.
