A Texas community is mourning after two young girls died following a reported drowning at a home in Katy.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced on X that deputies were responding to a residence on the 21000 block of Creek Edge Court after receiving a call about the possible drowning of two female toddlers, believed to be around 2 and 3 years old.

At the time, Gonzalez said the girls’ conditions were unknown and that a LifeFlight helicopter had been requested.

Several hours later, he shared a heartbreaking update.

“I am saddened to share that both toddlers were pronounced deceased at the hospital despite lifesaving efforts,” Gonzalez wrote. He described the incident as a “devastating loss for the family and our community.”

He also asked the public to keep the loved ones and first responders involved in their thoughts and prayers.

According to KTRK-TV, authorities said a woman called 911 screaming that two children had drowned in a backyard pool. When deputies arrived, emergency medical crews were already performing life-saving measures on the girls.

The toddlers reportedly lived at the home with their mother and grandparents.

Preliminary information indicates that the children’s grandmother had just returned from grocery shopping when she saw the girls in the pool. She, along with her daughter, husband, and neighbors, attempted to pull the children out before first responders arrived.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. KTRK-TV reported that both homicide and crime scene units are involved in examining what happened.

Authorities have not yet released additional details as the investigation continues.
