A wild confrontation inside a McDonald’s in La Jolla was caught on camera — and police say it involves a man pretending to be a federal ICE agent.
Joshua Cobb, 40, has been charged with misdemeanor assault and impersonating an officer after allegedly attacking store manager Daniel Martinez during the lunchtime rush on Thursday.
Video from inside the upscale San Diego restaurant shows Cobb — wearing jeans, a NASA T-shirt, and a backwards baseball cap — suddenly jumping behind the counter and grabbing Martinez from behind in a chokehold.
Witnesses say Cobb first claimed he was a federal immigration agent before lunging at the manager.
In the footage, Cobb can be heard shouting profanities and making bizarre claims, including asking why 911 calls weren’t working. At one point, he allegedly ranted about being willing to “take punches” while making arrests for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Martinez said the attack came out of nowhere.
“He grabbed me from the back, grabbed my neck really hard,” Martinez told a local news station. “All my coworkers jumped on him, and he let go. But after that, he just punched me on the side.”
The two men reportedly struggled near the drink station before employees stepped in to pull Cobb away. Even after being restrained, Cobb allegedly remained inside the restaurant, continuing to shout and make threats.
Police later identified Cobb as a local transient and said the chokehold could have caused serious injury.
Martinez, who has worked at the Nobel Drive location for six years, said Cobb was known to frequent the restaurant.
“He would just come in to grab sodas and leave a mess,” Martinez said.
San Diego Police emphasized that Cobb is not affiliated with ICE.
“Because of concerns in California around ICE agents and the use of force, we wanted to make sure people knew this was not an ICE agent,” said Lt. Cesar Jimenez.
Cobb was arrested and later released. He could not be immediately reached for comment.
