Three Florida teenagers are being hailed as heroes after what started as a simple act of kindness turned into a life-saving rescue on the side of a busy road.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, high school students Brody Murray, Logan Royer and Cody Magrone were eating at a McDonald’s on April 19 when they spotted a man struggling to change a flat tire nearby.
Instead of driving away, the teens decided to stop and help.
That decision may have saved a man’s life.
The man, identified as 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado, suddenly began looking pale and weak while changing the tire and told the teens he didn’t feel well.
According to police, Fernandez-Delgado started suffering chest pains and asked the boys to call an ambulance.
“There’s an old guy on the side of the road,” Royer said during the 911 call released by authorities. “We’re helping change his tire, and he does not feel good at all.”
The teens told dispatchers Fernandez-Delgado looked “very tired” and “very pale” as they waited for emergency crews to arrive.
First responders quickly transported him to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he was having a heart attack.
Authorities said Fernandez-Delgado later underwent several medical procedures and has since been released from the hospital.
The situation could have ended very differently if the boys had not stopped to help.
According to Fernandez-Delgado’s son, his father did not have a working phone with him and would not have been able to call for help on his own.
“God didn’t send angels with wings,” his son, Cristian Fernandez, said in a statement released by police. “He sent those boys.”
The teens later spoke about the emotional moment and said they were simply trying to do the right thing.
“I think it was very lucky,” Murray said during an interview. “Maybe God put us there to help this guy out.”
“It doesn’t cost anything to be a good person,” Magrone added.
The City of Cooper City later honored the three teens during a special recognition ceremony celebrating their quick thinking and compassion.
Police praised the boys for stepping in when someone needed help most.
“Sometimes, the difference between life and death starts with simply choosing to help,” the sheriff’s office said.

Nice to see kids doing the right thing and stopping to help, their parents should be very proud of them.
