Bus Carrying Blind Students Slams Into Building in Terrifying Crash

Three people were taken to the hospital after a school bus carrying students from the Maryland School for the Blind crashed into a building in Parkville.

The accident happened at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Officials said the bus was carrying two adults and three children when it slammed into the building and became “fully lodged inside of the structure.”

One child, the bus driver and another adult at the scene were transported to a hospital with injuries described as minor.

At least eight other people were evaluated by emergency crews but declined to be taken to the hospital.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the crash. Local station WBFF reported that at least three vehicles may have been involved, although investigators warned that the number could change as they continued examining the scene.

The Maryland School for the Blind thanked the emergency workers who responded.

“We are grateful to the Baltimore County Fire Department, EMS, law enforcement, and hospital personnel for their prompt response and care,” the school said in a statement.

Witness Carrie Shelley, who owns a nearby business, said she was inside one of the surrounding buildings when the crash occurred.

Shelley told The Baltimore Banner that one of the students jumped out of the bus and appeared terrified.

“So a bunch of us helped him out and had him on the steps,” she said.

Other bystanders reportedly helped the remaining students get off the damaged bus.

Photos from the scene showed emergency crews surrounding the vehicle as it sat embedded in the building.

Nearby roads were temporarily closed while firefighters, police and medical personnel worked at the scene. The Baltimore County Police Department later announced that the streets had reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing.
