A sightseeing helicopter turned into a terrifying nightmare when a small aircraft suddenly spun out of control and crashed into two tourists at a popular attraction in China.
Dramatic video from the Chaka Sky No. 1 Scenic Area in Qinghai Province shows the bright yellow aircraft flying low near the edge of a salt lake on Tuesday before abruptly losing control.
Within seconds, the aircraft began spinning wildly as it dropped toward the ground, sending nearby visitors scrambling to get out of the way.
The Harbin XLI gyroplane slammed down near the lake’s shoreline and struck two people before finally coming to a stop.
One of the victims reportedly suffered serious head injuries, but both survived the frightening impact.
“A self-rotating rotorcraft crash-landed, injuring two people on the ground,” officials with the Ulan County Joint Investigation Group said in a statement.
“The victims were sent for medical treatment at the first opportunity. Their vital signs are currently stable.”
The aircraft had reportedly been taking part in a low-altitude demonstration flight when something went wrong.
Footage of the crash quickly spread online, with viewers stunned by how close the incident came to becoming a deadly disaster.

The gyroplane appeared to fall directly into an area where tourists had been standing moments earlier, leaving people with almost no time to react.
Despite the force of the crash, officials said both injured visitors were alive and receiving medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet announced what caused the aircraft to lose control.
The incident remains under investigation.
