A 19-year-old Massachusetts man was killed in a horrific accident after falling onto subway tracks while trying to save his girlfriend.
Frankey Wright Jr., 19, was with his girlfriend at the MBTA’s Forest Hills Station in Boston on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 29, after the pair attended the city’s Caribbean Carnival.
According to local reports, the couple entered the station carrying flags when the young woman suddenly lost her balance.
Frankey reportedly tried to grab her and prevent her from falling, but both teenagers tumbled into the track area.
Frankey landed on the electrified third rail and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His girlfriend survived and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Details about her condition were not immediately released.
Frankey’s devastated father, Frankey Wright, said his son had never even ridden the train before that day.
“My son was a noble young man, and he lost his life trying to save the life of his girlfriend,” the grieving father told Boston 25 News.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority called the teen’s death a “horrific tragedy.”
“On behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” the agency said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Authorities do not suspect foul play, and an investigation into exactly how the deadly accident unfolded remains underway.
Frankey’s loved ones have since launched a GoFundMe to help his family pay for funeral expenses.
Those closest to the teenager remembered him as someone with a huge heart who routinely put other people ahead of himself.
“Those closest to him will always remember Frankey as a noble boy with a big heart,” the fundraiser organizer wrote, describing him as someone who “put others before himself even in his final moments.”
His father said Frankey’s last act showed exactly the kind of person his son was — a young man who instinctively tried to save someone he loved, even though it ultimately cost him his own life.
