Two people were killed and two others left fighting for their lives after a shooting erupted inside a North Carolina home Thursday morning, authorities said.

Gaston County Police officers rushed to a home on Forbes Road just before 8:45 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting gunfire.

When officers entered the home, they discovered four people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police immediately began providing lifesaving aid until emergency medical crews arrived, but two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two victims were rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their current conditions have not been released.

Investigators said they have identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting, but authorities have not released that person’s name or provided details about what may have led to the violence.

Police believe the person responsible and the victims knew one another.

Investigators also said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and that there is no known ongoing threat to the surrounding community.

Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims.

The Gaston County Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.

Gaston County is located roughly 30 minutes west of Charlotte and just north of the South Carolina state line.
