A Michigan father was killed in a heartbreaking accident after his teenage daughter struck him with a car while he was teaching her how to drive, according to police.
The tragedy unfolded around 4 p.m. Sunday, September 27, in the 24000 block of Warner Avenue in Warren, a Detroit suburb in Macomb County.
Police said the 62-year-old father was giving his 18-year-old daughter a driving lesson when something went terribly wrong.
Investigators said the pair had been practicing driving, including parallel parking, when the young woman struck her father with the vehicle. He was then dragged a short distance before the car came to a stop.
Warren police officers and firefighters rushed to the scene following the crash.
The badly injured father was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not publicly released the names of the father or daughter.
The teenager remained at the scene after the crash and has been fully cooperating with investigators, police said.
Officials also said there is currently no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role.
Perhaps most importantly for the investigation, police said preliminary evidence gathered at the scene appears to be consistent with the daughter’s description of what happened.
The vehicle involved has been identified in local reports as a 1998 Toyota Camry.
The exact sequence of events that caused the father to be struck has not yet been publicly explained.
The Warren Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is now examining the incident. Crash reconstruction investigators typically review physical evidence such as vehicle positioning, tire marks, damage and other evidence from the scene to determine as precisely as possible how a deadly collision occurred.
No criminal charges have been announced.
