NASA to Hold First Ever Public Meeting about UFOs

In a historic move, a NASA panel dedicated to studying unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), commonly referred to as UFOs, convened its first public meeting on Wednesday.

Comprised of 16 experts from diverse fields such as physics and astrobiology, the panel was established in June last year to examine unclassified UFO sightings and data collected from civilian government and commercial sources.

NASA announced that the four-hour public session aimed to finalize deliberations before the agency’s independent study team publishes a report later this summer.

This marks a significant milestone as it represents the first-ever inquiry on UFOs conducted under the auspices of the U.S. space agency. Previously, such matters fell exclusively within the secretive domain of military and national security officials.

The NASA study is distinct from the recently formalized Pentagon-based investigation of UAPs, which have been documented by military aviators and analyzed by U.S. defense and intelligence authorities.

The parallel efforts by NASA and the Pentagon, accompanied by a degree of public scrutiny, signify a notable shift in the government’s approach to UFO sightings, which have long been met with deflection, debunking, and discrediting since the 1940s.

The term “UFO” has been replaced by “UAP” in government parlance, denoting unidentified aerial phenomena. While NASA’s involvement initially raised expectations for a more open-minded approach to the topic, the space agency has been cautious in its assertions.

“There is no evidence UAPs are extraterrestrial in origin,” stated NASA when announcing the formation of the panel. In recent statements, NASA introduced the possibility of expanding the UAP acronym to “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” hinting at the inclusion of sightings beyond airborne objects.

Nevertheless, NASA defines UAPs as observations of events in the sky that defy identification as conventional aircraft or scientifically recognized natural phenomena.

Meanwhile, U.S. defense officials have reported an influx of new reports following the Pentagon’s intensified investigation into UAP sightings. Although most cases remain unexplained, the head of the Pentagon’s newly formed All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) emphasized that while the existence of intelligent alien life has not been ruled out, no sighting has produced evidence of extraterrestrial origins.

The public meeting of the NASA panel signifies a significant step forward in shedding light on the enigmatic realm of UAPs. With experts from various scientific fields examining the data and findings, there is hope for a more comprehensive understanding of these phenomena.
