A disturbing incident unfolded at a restaurant on the Far South Side, resulting in a mother being charged with murder after allegedly inciting her 14-year-old son to shoot a man during a heated altercation. The incident, which took place at a Maxwell Street Express, shocked the community as the details emerged. Cook County prosecutors provided a harrowing account of the events that unfolded, revealing a disturbing sequence of violence and alleged encouragement from the mother.

The Altercation and Encouragement:
According to prosecutors, Carlishia Hood, 35, engaged in an argument with Jeremy Brown, 32, while waiting in line for food at the restaurant. As the altercation escalated, Brown’s girlfriend reportedly laughed and encouraged him during the confrontation. In the midst of the dispute, Hood texted her 14-year-old son, summoning him to the scene.

Tragic Turn of Events:
The situation turned physical when Brown punched Hood in the head. Allegedly responding to his mother’s call, Hood’s son arrived at the restaurant armed with a gun. The teenager then proceeded to shoot Brown multiple times, including in the back, as Brown attempted to flee the scene. Hood and her son pursued Brown into the parking lot, where she allegedly urged her son to continue shooting and even instructed him to kill Brown. Prosecutors revealed that the teenager eventually ceased firing, and his mother reportedly urged him to shoot Brown’s girlfriend as well. However, the teen resisted his mother’s command and pushed her away.

Surveillance Video and Arrest:
The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Brown’s girlfriend positively identified Hood and her son from photo arrays, leading to their identification as the perpetrators. Both Hood and her son surrendered to the police on Wednesday. Hood, who possessed a valid firearm owners identification card and a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Legal Proceedings:
Hood’s son, who faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm, appeared in Juvenile Court and was ordered to be held in custody. Meanwhile, Judge Barbara Dawkins set Hood’s bail at $3 million. She is scheduled to return to court on July 12.

Community Shock and Reflection:
The shocking nature of the incident has left the local community in disbelief and mourning for the loss of Jeremy Brown. The case raises important questions about the responsibility of parents in guiding their children away from violence and the consequences of their actions. The court proceedings will shed further light on the motivations and circumstances that led to this tragic incident.

  1. So…a “responsible gun owner” that had a permit and a license for the weapon has her minor son come with her gun to kill someone who made her mad at a restaurant. Seriously? So much for the argument of responsible gun owners. Pathetic.
