According to Woman’s Day magazine, Hollywood actor and longtime leader of the Church of Scientology Tom Cruise is apparently interested in hiring Australian actor Robert Irwin. Irwin, the late ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin’s son, is said to have been introduced to Cruise during the Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One Sydney premiere. According to the publication, Cruise believes Irwin has “huge potential” and wants to collaborate with him to assist his production firm enter the TV streaming industry.
According to the insider cited in Woman’s Day magazine, Cruise wants to work with Irwin on projects rather than persuading him to join the church. One specific suggestion is to have Robert take the lead role in a revival of The Crocodile Hunter with Steve Irwin. According to reports, when Connor was a child, Cruise and his adoptive son watched the show together. Connor is the adopted child of Tom Cruise and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, who was brought up in the Church of Scientology.
The young zoologist and his girlfriend Rorie Buckey made their red carpet debut at the Sydney premiere of Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which is when the rumors about Cruise’s interest in Irwin first surfaced. Irwin, who works at the Queensland-based Australia Zoo, and Buckey, the late actor Heath Ledger’s niece, are presently engaged in a distant relationship.
The public has always been interested in Tom Cruise’s ties to the Church of Scientology. The Church of Scientology, established in the 1950s by science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, has come under fire for its methods and how it treats its adherents. Cruise has been a vocal supporter of the organization and frequently gives Scientology credit for his success in the entertainment industry.
Although the rumors that Cruise was interested in converting Irwin to Scientology may create some questions, it appears that the main focus is on possible professional partnership rather than converting people to religion. The fact that Cruise wants to resurrect The Crocodile Hunter and collaborate with Irwin shows that he wants to use the young actor’s potential and Steve Irwin’s legendary heritage to further new projects. Only time will tell if this relationship succeeds and what it means for Irwin’s career as well as Cruise’s production firm.
