It is no secret that the British Royal family has seen its fair share of issues, and Prince Andrew in particular has a history of garnering negative attention. Prince Andrew stepped down from his royal duties amid the controversy surrounding his relationships with Jeffrey Epstein, who is accused of trafficking children for sex. However, it seems that the scandal followed him even into his bedroom. When it came to presenting his collection of cuddly toys, the prince allegedly had severe requirements for his attendants.

Prince Andrew’s toys were organized, according to Charlotte Briggs, who claims to have worked at Buckingham Palace in the 1990s. In 2022, Briggs admitted to The Sun, “I was told about the teddies as soon as I got the job, and it was driven into me how he wanted them. I was trained for an entire day. Everything needed to be perfect. It was so strange. She went on to say that the bears, which were gathered from all around the world, frequently wore nautical-themed costumes.

In Prince Andrew’s bedroom, the bear placement was extremely precise. The smaller bears, according to Briggs, were generally arranged within an empty fireplace. But amid all the toys, the prince selected a few favorites. “Daddy,” “Ducks,” and “Prince” were black panthers, two hippos, and they were spread about the room or on his bed. The two most popular teddy bears even had the honor of occupying thrones made of mahogany at his bedside. Briggs thought the entire scenario was very strange, especially in light of the fact that Prince Andrew was an adult and a veteran who had served in the Falkland Islands. He had strong feelings about how the teddies were arranged, but it was evident that he loved them.

It’s interesting to note that Briggs is not the first person to assert similar things regarding the prince’s bear collection. During a press tour to Andrew’s apartment in Buckingham Palace in 2019, reporter Elizabeth Day described seeing a “oversized teddy bear.” The prince found it humorous to explain that it had been a wedding gift from his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, when Day recalled asking him about it. The bear was waiting for him, according to Andrew, in the horse-drawn carriage that took them from Westminster Abbey to their reception. Day thought it odd that a grown guy would be so amused by the presence of a stuffed animal.

In a documentary titled “Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile” that aired on British network ITV in 2022, even a former royal protection officer, Paul Page, discussed Prince Andrew’s toy collection. Page asserted to have seen the collection while he was a guest at the prince’s private apartment. He claimed that a specific diagram detailing the exact placement of each item was given to the house staff. According to Page, “[The bed] had about 50 or 60 stuffed animals lying on it, and basically, the inspector showed us a card in a drawer and it was a picture of these bears all together.” The laminated image was made because he would yell and shout if the maids didn’t arrange the bears in the proper sequence. It is important to note that Page was later found guilty of fraud in a separate property scheme, which calls into question his veracity.

Prince Andrew has mostly withdrawn from the public eye in recent years as a result of the sexual assault accusations made against him by Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most outspoken victims. In order to avoid a trial and any formal acknowledgment of guilt, he settled a sexual assault case brought by Giuffre in February 2022. The accusations have been continually refuted by Prince Andrew.

The debate over Prince Andrew’s teddy bear collection may seem insignificant in comparison to the serious accusations made against him, but it provides a window into the odd and eccentric world of the British Royal family. Every individual has their quirks, and Prince Andrew’s obsession with his stuffed animals has created for an interesting and unexpected chapter in his life.
