A group of climate activists, known as Climate Defiance, is gearing up for what they’re calling a “historic blockade” of the Congressional Baseball Game, a beloved annual tradition where Republican and Democratic members of Congress come together for a friendly game of baseball. But this time, their pitch isn’t just for a win on the diamond; it’s a protest against what they see as Congress’ complicity in environmental destruction.

In a fiery statement to their members and supporters, Climate Defiance painted a dire picture of the future, warning that our planet is careening toward catastrophe unless urgent action is taken. “So long as Congress torches our planet, we won’t give them a moment of rest,” declared the group’s founder, Michael Greenberg. “Our entire world faces imminent catastrophe, and it’s shameful that Congress hasn’t already ended fossil fuel subsidies.”

Their plan? To shut down the Congressional Baseball Game as a symbolic gesture to force those in power to reckon with the urgent need for climate action. This isn’t the first time Climate Defiance has set their sights on the ballpark; two years ago, they attempted a similar protest that was thwarted by last-minute political maneuvering. Now, they’re back with renewed determination.

“This March was the warmest on record,” the group emphasized, highlighting the urgency of their cause. They’re targeting members of both parties, arguing that fossil fuel subsidies are a bipartisan issue that requires bipartisan action.

Their call to action is clear: join them in person for a blockade of the Congressional Baseball Game. “Shut it down with us,” they urge their supporters. On their website, Climate Defiance advocates for “consistent, mass-turnout, nonviolent disruption” as a means to compel politicians to act.

In their email to members, they make it clear that they’re not asking for donations or signatures; they’re asking for bodies on the ground, ready to disrupt business as usual until their demands are met.

The 2024 Congressional Baseball Game is scheduled for June 12th at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Climate Defiance is preparing to make their presence felt, determined to send a powerful message to Congress: the time for action on climate change is now, and they won’t rest until it happens.

  1. Climate activists want too much, because the technology to go carbon neutral isn’t here yet, and it takes a robust economy to invent, manufacture, and deploy new technology. They’re hindering their own objectives.

They’re also evil bustards that want to boss other people around, or the tool of wannabe dictators. They should be forced to set an example and give up everything themselves (and hopefully learn some humility) rather than flying or driving in SUVs to their fashionable protests.
