Fans Wear Iconic Charlie Kirk Shirts at Football Game Before Stunning Win

The roar inside Beaver Stadium on Saturday night wasn’t just for the football. Thousands of fans in white pom-poms and Charlie Kirk’s “FREEDOM” shirts turned the Oregon–Penn State showdown into a tribute for the late conservative firebrand.

Photos and video of Penn State’s student section—peppered with Kirk’s shirts—went viral across social media as the Oregon Ducks, Kirk’s beloved team, eked out a 30–24 overtime victory. The game ended on a dramatic interception by Oregon defensive back Dylan Thieneman, sealing a win before a stadium packed with fans unknowingly dressed in the image of a man assassinated just weeks ago.

The shirts didn’t appear by accident. Conservative influencer Benny Johnson, a close ally of Kirk and a high-profile figure at Turning Point USA, staged a massive giveaway in the stadium’s parking lot before kickoff.

Johnson, flanked by staffers and camera crews, handed out 5,000 of the white shirts. Footage showed lines snaking across multiple sections of the lot, with chants of “USA! USA!” echoing through the night.

“This was Charlie’s world—college football, culture, and freedom,” Johnson declared earlier this week on Fox News host Will Cain’s show. “In honor of Charlie, we’re going to fight and win these battles where he loved to be. And this game—Penn State versus Oregon—was one he had circled.”

Kirk himself had planned to be at the game. Instead, it became one of the first major public demonstrations of loyalty since his shocking death.

Kirk, 31, was gunned down on September 10 during a campus event at Utah Valley University. A single shot, fired from a rooftop, ended the life of the outspoken activist, leaving behind his wife Erika and their two young children.

The “FREEDOM” shirt distributed on Saturday is the same design Kirk wore during his final speech. Johnson held it up during his announcement, promising the design would become a symbol of resilience.

For Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk built into one of the most influential conservative movements on campus, the mission is now survival and tribute. “Charlie’s voice was stolen from us,” Johnson said. “But the message lives on.”

Even Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning, weighed in with a striking message. After offering personal condolences to Kirk’s family earlier this month, Lanning used Saturday’s win to reflect on the country’s divisions.

“You walk in our locker room, you see guys from every background—different races, religions, hometowns,” Lanning said. “And what you find is love. We’re missing that in America. I didn’t even know Charlie was an Oregon fan until recently. But I know this—what happened to him was evil. Pure evil.”

The coach paused, recalling the painful conversation he had with his own children about Kirk’s killing. “It’s sad when you have to explain that kind of violence to your kids,” he said. “But maybe the world could learn something from the way our guys care for each other.”

For Oregon fans, the game was a classic. For Kirk’s followers, it was something more—a cultural moment, a stadium turned into a stage for the cause he championed.

As one Penn State student wearing a “FREEDOM” shirt told local reporters, “I didn’t come here expecting politics. But seeing everyone in these shirts made it feel like Charlie was still here.”

The Ducks’ victory may have gone in the record books. But for thousands of fans chanting and cheering in the cold Pennsylvania night, Saturday was remembered as a rallying cry for a man whose influence still looms over America’s most contested cultural arenas.
