Disney World, the “happiest place on Earth,” is facing a grim reality. On Thursday, another guest has died at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Florida, marking the third death at the resort in less than three weeks.
The man was identified as Matthew Cohn, though the cause of death has not yet been released, according to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office. Earlier this month, Summer Equitz, 31, tragically died by suicide at the same hotel. A separate visitor also passed away on Tuesday after a medical emergency.
Videos shared on TikTok show police cordoning off the Contemporary Resort as guests reported a “medical emergency.” One visitor wrote, “We were told not to look out the window… just sad for everyone involved.”
The Contemporary Resort, known for its iconic 1970s decor and monorail running through its lobby, has suddenly become the center of intense attention following these recent deaths.
Summer Equitz, 31, had given birth earlier this year and was believed to be struggling with postpartum depression. She had previously worked for Disneyland in California and had celebrated her honeymoon at Disney World last year. Online speculation about the monorail’s involvement in her death was quickly dismissed by authorities.
The latest incident involved a man in his 60s who suffered a medical episode at the Fort Wilderness Resort. His wife found him unconscious in their room, and he later died at a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed there were no signs of foul play.
Disney World has not commented on the string of recent deaths. The sudden tragedies have left fans and visitors reeling, proving that even the “happiest place on Earth” can have its darkest moments.
