A 13-year-old girl in Galveston, Texas, had a terrifying brush with danger Monday morning when a man tried to grab her from behind while she was walking to school, authorities said. The suspect was reportedly wearing a ski mask.
The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. as the teen made her way to Central Middle School. According to the Galveston Police Department, she suddenly heard footsteps approaching from behind before the man lunged at her.
The girl fought back, biting the man twice and breaking free without sustaining any injuries. She ran straight to school and alerted her teachers, who immediately called the police.

Her parents later arrived to accompany officers back to their apartment and retrace her route, helping investigators identify the exact location of the attack.
Security footage from a nearby business captured the girl walking along her usual path, followed shortly by a man taking the same route. Police described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and what appeared to be a ski mask.
Authorities also alerted local medical centers, asking them to report anyone seeking treatment for bite-related injuries.
