A young paramedic from London was left partially paralyzed after cracking her neck — a habit she never imagined could nearly cost her life.

Natalie Kunicki, 23, was watching movies in bed with a friend after a night out when she stretched her neck and heard a loud crack. She brushed it off as nothing unusual — her joints popped often — and went to sleep. But just 15 minutes later, she woke up unable to move her left leg.

“When I tried to get up, I fell straight to the floor,” Natalie said. “At first, I thought I was just tipsy, but then I realized something was really wrong.”

Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had suffered a stroke. The “crack” she heard wasn’t harmless — it was her vertebral artery tearing, which caused a blood clot in her brain.

Natalie’s left side was almost completely paralyzed. “I was emotionless for days,” she said. “I couldn’t believe this had happened from something so simple.”

After weeks of therapy and daily exercises, she slowly regained movement in her leg, arm, and hand and was finally able to leave the hospital on March 28.

Now recovering at her parents’ home in Harrow, London, Natalie is speaking out to warn others. “People need to know that even young, healthy people can have a stroke,” she said. “I wasn’t even trying to crack my neck — I just moved, and it happened. Every minute counts, so don’t ever dismiss the signs.”

She also cautioned others to be careful with chiropractic adjustments or strenuous gym routines involving the neck.

Despite the terrifying ordeal, Natalie says she’s eager to return to the career she loves. “I just want to get back to work. I love being a paramedic — sitting still is driving me crazy,” she said with a smile.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help support her recovery while she takes time off from work.
