Passenger Explodes in Rage, Throws Food at Fellow Flyers Before Being Kicked Off Plane (Video)

A Southwest Airlines flight took a wild turn before it even left the gate — and the chaotic moment is now blowing up online.

In a video shared to Instagram on Monday, Jan. 12, by the account MikeandBo, an unruly passenger is seen having a full-on meltdown aboard a Southwest Airlines flight, ultimately getting kicked off the plane after screaming at other travelers and throwing food.

The clip shows a Southwest employee standing firmly in front of the man, telling him plainly, “There’s no excuse, so I’m telling you you have to get off.” As nearby passengers watch in disbelief, the man asks if anyone wants to “chime in,” before launching into a profanity-filled rant aimed at other people seated nearby.

At one point, he turns toward a man behind him and shouts an explicit comment about how he would react if someone were talking to his wife. The confrontation quickly escalates, with the passenger hurling insults, yelling at people filming the incident, and threatening to throw his food.

Moments later, he follows through — tossing a white plastic takeout bag at a fellow passenger who was recording. He’s also seen gesturing with a small pizza box as if he’s about to throw that too.

Passengers explains that the outburst began after the man believed another traveler was flirting with his wife during boarding. According to witnesses, the situation grew tense when the wife was moved to a different seat to get away from her husband, which only seemed to enrage him further.

“He was yelling across the aisle at her,” one passenger said, adding that his wife appeared visibly upset and was crying. After she was reseated, the man allegedly began arguing with the passenger next to her, setting off the explosive chain of events.

As tensions rose, one traveler reportedly told the man that no one wanted him on the plane — which caused the passenger to spin around and wrongly accuse someone sitting behind him of making the comment. At that point, flight attendants stepped in and ordered him to leave the aircraft.

When a second crew member arrived to escort him off, the man briefly turned back toward his seat holding a pizza box. Another passenger joked, “Dollar for a slice?” — prompting the man to throw food before finally exiting the plane.

The video ends with the reveal that the tossed takeout container was filled with French fries.

Passengers said the situation felt volatile and unpredictable in the moment, with some fearing it could turn physical. Despite that, multiple witnesses praised the Southwest crew for keeping their composure and de-escalating the situation.

“They handled it extremely professionally,” one passenger said. “Everybody stayed calm, and they did an amazing job. It could have turned into a complete nightmare.”

Southwest Airlines has not publicly commented on the incident.
