A luxury steakhouse in Australia is speaking out after sharing shocking CCTV footage that appears to show a customer planting his own armpit hair in a dish — then demanding a refund.
Pony Dining, an upscale restaurant located in The Rocks in Sydney, posted the surveillance clip online after a family of six allegedly tried to walk out without paying on Wednesday night.
According to the restaurant, the group complained about finding a hair in their food after their meals had already been served. But when staff reviewed the security cameras, they say they saw something very different.
The footage appears to show a man in a white polo shirt glancing around the dining room before reaching into his armpit and seemingly pulling out strands of hair. Moments later, he raises a complaint about a hair in his meal and refuses to pay for the food.

“We don’t usually share content like this,” the restaurant wrote alongside the video. “This footage shows an incident which occurred in our venue. After the meal was served, the guest later raised a complaint regarding a hair in their meal and declined payment for all the food.”
The restaurant also claimed their staff endured “inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour” during the confrontation.
According to Pony Dining, the group had ordered several high-ticket items, including one of their signature Tomahawk steaks, which can cost up to £100 (around $125 USD), along with other premium dishes.
“Everything was very clean, they had a beautiful table,” the restaurant told news.com.au. “We decided to check the CCTV after we noticed they were acting very weird.”
Staff said they attempted to get the man to pay, but he refused. Police were called to the scene. However, without immediate access to the CCTV footage at the time, officers reportedly told the restaurant it appeared to be a civil matter.
In the end, the group paid for their drinks and left without covering the full food bill, the restaurant said.
Since the footage was posted, reactions online have been intense. Some social media users called for the man to be publicly identified, while fellow hospitality workers shared similar stories.
“I’m a restaurant manager just next to you guys, and they did the exact same thing to me,” one person commented. “They ‘found a small rock’ in their food and created a huge scene, then left without paying the full bill.”
Pony Dining, known for its Argentinian-inspired menu, premium beef cuts and fresh seafood, said they shared the video to raise awareness for other hospitality venues.
And judging by the online response, the bizarre dinner drama has certainly gotten people talking.
