Sixteen people were injured early Monday after a bus carrying German high school students collided with a delivery van and overturned on a highway in the Netherlands, authorities said.
The serious crash happened on the A28 near Wezep, east of Amsterdam, at around 4:20 a.m. local time.
According to Dutch police, eight people suffered serious injuries, including the driver of the delivery van.
The other eight victims sustained minor injuries.
All of those hurt were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The bus was carrying more than 50 students and four teachers from a school in Schönberg, Germany, according to a notice posted by the school.
The group was traveling to Paris at the time of the crash.
The students were from two 12th-grade classes, meaning most were likely around 17 or 18 years old.
It is not yet clear how many of the injured were students.
According to local media reports citing police, the bus collided with the delivery van before smashing through a guardrail and overturning onto its side.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
The school said there were no reports of life-threatening injuries and that everyone involved was receiving medical care.
Authorities have not yet said what caused the crash.
Dutch police are continuing to investigate the collision as they work to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the bus and van collided.
