A night out in downtown Austin, TX turned into a scene of horror early Sunday when gunfire broke out inside a packed entertainment district bar, leaving three people dead — including the alleged shooter — and 14 others wounded.

Authorities say the violence unfolded at Buford’s, a popular beer garden in the city’s bustling nightlife corridor. According to Lisa Davis, police received reports of a “male shooting” at the venue shortly before 2 a.m.

Officers rushed to the scene and encountered a man armed with a gun. Police returned fire, killing the suspect on site, Davis confirmed during an early morning press conference.

Emergency responders described a frantic and fast-moving scene.

Robert Luckritz said crews received the call at 1:39 a.m., and within 57 seconds, the first paramedics and officers were actively treating victims.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, including the shooter. Fourteen others were transported to nearby hospitals. Officials said three of the injured remain in critical condition.

The shooting rattled the heart of Austin’s nightlife district, an area typically filled with music, tourists, and late-night crowds on weekends.

Kirk Watson praised first responders for their rapid and decisive action.

“They definitely saved lives,” Watson said, crediting officers and paramedics with preventing an even greater tragedy.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or the suspected gunman. Investigators are continuing to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation.
