What was supposed to be a joyful wedding celebration quickly turned into a frightening scene after a floor suddenly gave way beneath guests at a New Hampshire venue.
The incident happened Saturday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. at the Preserve at Chocorua in Tamworth, where as many as 140 people had gathered for the event.
According to officials, the collapse occurred inside a building known as the “Sap House.” Without warning, the floor buckled—creating a massive 20-by-20-foot hole and sending roughly 70 people crashing into the basement below.
Guests were left stunned as chaos unfolded.
Some people became trapped under fallen beams and nearby equipment stored downstairs, while others scrambled to help those who had fallen. Before emergency crews even arrived, guests and staff were already pulling people out using ladders and providing first aid.
Six people were taken to the hospital with injuries, though officials say they were not life-threatening. Several have already been released.
First responders described a hectic scene, with dozens of people needing assistance and others still being carefully pulled from the basement.
Investigators are now working to determine what caused the collapse, but early indications suggest the building may have been over capacity at the time.
The fire marshal’s office and local fire crews are continuing to investigate.
