A routine airport trip turned into a full-blown scene at Los Angeles International Airport after an Australian traveler allegedly attacked a TSA officer over a missing bag that wasn’t actually stolen.

Thomas Jesse Bingham, 35, from Melbourne, has pleaded not guilty to a federal charge of assaulting an officer after the chaotic confrontation at LAX. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison, with a trial tentatively set for May 12.

According to prosecutors, the drama unfolded on March 15 as Bingham was getting ready to fly to Las Vegas. At some point, he became convinced that a TSA officer had taken his backpack and passport.

Authorities say Bingham approached the officer inside an airport restroom, then followed him outside as tensions escalated fast.

What happened next shocked witnesses.

Prosecutors allege Bingham grabbed the officer’s uniform, ripped off his ID lanyard, pulled his hair, and shoved him into a glass wall during the struggle. The situation got so intense that the officer had to wrestle Bingham to the ground and hold him there until airport police arrived.

The officer later reported pain in his hand and back and sought medical treatment.

But here’s the twist—investigators later found Bingham’s missing backpack and passport at a restaurant inside the terminal he had visited earlier.

Bingham was initially arrested at the scene, released, and then taken into custody again at LAX before he could board a flight to the United Kingdom.

Now, he’s facing serious federal charges as the case moves forward, all stemming from a confrontation that may have started with a costly misunderstanding.

  1. People have lost their minds. Zero ability to control themselves and everything is always someone else’s fault, never theirs.
