Panic erupted at Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington after a violent stabbing left at least six people hospitalized, including several students and a school security guard.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene just before 1:40 p.m. Thursday after reports of a possible stabbing. When first responders arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from serious injuries. According to officials, five students and one security guard were hurt, with four victims reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities say the suspect, believed to be a student at the school, is now in custody. That individual was also taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
Early reports suggest the violence may have started as a fight that spiraled out of control. Witness accounts paint a chaotic and terrifying scene unfolding in seconds.
One student told local media that a group of teens attempted to jump another student — but the situation took a deadly turn when the targeted student allegedly pulled out a knife.
Other students described hearing shouting and commotion before the school was suddenly placed on lockdown. Inside classrooms, confusion quickly turned to fear.
“In class we hear, ‘This is a lockdown,’ and everybody’s like, ‘What is going on?’” one freshman said. “Then we saw the video… it was just crazy.”
Students who saw footage of the incident described a disturbing scene, with blood visible and people scrambling in panic. Some also claimed rumors spread quickly that the suspect may have had a troubled past, though officials have not confirmed those details.
Police flooded the campus as it remained locked down, securing the area and beginning their investigation into what led up to the attack.
