A terrifying crash on a dangerous Georgia road has left six high school students hospitalized — including two fighting serious injuries — after a car flipped and slammed into a tree.

The single-vehicle wreck happened Thursday morning in Newnan, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, when a teenage boy behind the wheel of a 2021 Honda Accord reportedly lost control while speeding through a sharp curve on Vaughn Road, according to authorities.

The car veered off the roadway, crashed into a utility pole, and then barreled into a large tree, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.

Neighbors say the moment was impossible to miss.

“All of a sudden I heard a loud bang and then my power went out,” one resident said. “I could hear the kids trying to get out of the car, and I just knew something was really wrong.”

All six students, identified as Northgate High School teens, were rushed to nearby hospitals. Two teenage girls were airlifted in critical condition, while the others were also treated for injuries.

Footage from the scene shows just how violent the crash was, with tire marks stretching along the roadside and the front of the car crushed beyond recognition.

For longtime residents, the crash is a painful reminder of just how dangerous that stretch of road has become.

“A lot of people fly around that curve like they’re on two wheels,” said Debbie Canup, who has lived on the road for decades and has repeatedly pushed for stronger safety measures like speed bumps and stop signs.

She says warning signs haven’t been enough to slow drivers down.

“We get signs that say speed is enforced, but it’s not,” she added.

The crash has also sparked concern among parents, especially since it happened during school hours.

“At that time of day, they should have been in class,” one parent said. “It makes you wonder what happened and how this affects the other kids moving forward.”

The local school district sent a message to families offering support and counseling services as the community processes the shocking incident.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time tragedy has struck that same road. A teen was killed there in 2016, and another lost their life in a separate crash in 2023 — adding to growing fears that more needs to be done before another deadly accident happens.

  1. When I was in high school mid 1960s, another student and 3 other students were killed in an accident in his Mustang while skipping school… a real mess…
Where I live now near an intersection we have several roads crossing and commercial driveways exiting and it gets confusing with lots of accidents…

  2. Kids in my state aren’t allowed to have that many other kids in the car when they are still minors. Too much distraction going on. Parents shouldn’t allow it even if it isn’t the law. I pray all these kids recover I know the pain of this I lost my brother this same way.
