At Least Eight Killed and 25 Injured After Devastating Train Crash

A horrifying train crash in Bangkok turned into a massive fireball Saturday after a train slammed into a public bus, killing at least eight people and leaving dozens more injured.

Emergency crews rushed to the chaotic scene as flames swallowed the bus and spread to nearby vehicles, including cars and motorcycles. Officials said the terrifying crash involved a train colliding with traffic at a railway crossing, triggering an inferno that sent thick black smoke pouring into the sky.

According to Bangkok police chief Urumporn Koondejsumrit, at least eight people were killed and dozens more hurt in the disaster.

“Eight people have died and 25 others were injured,” he said.

Rescue workers desperately pulled injured victims from the wreckage while firefighters blasted the burning vehicles with water hoses in an effort to stop the flames from spreading further.

Officials later confirmed the fire had been brought under control, but crews remained at the scene cooling the wreckage, venting gas, and searching for additional victims.

The horrifying collision happened early Saturday afternoon. Videos shared on social media appeared to show the train approaching the crossing at a moderate speed moments before smashing into the bus, which burst into flames almost instantly upon impact.

One witness who was near the crossing with her daughter described the terrifying moment to local broadcaster Thai PBS.

“I didn’t dare look back to see if there were any victims,” she said.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reportedly ordered an official investigation into the deadly crash.

Deadly transportation accidents remain a major issue in Thailand, which is known for having some of the world’s most dangerous roads. Speeding, drunk driving, and weak traffic enforcement have all been blamed for the country’s high number of fatal accidents over the years.
